Care Portal Project
Meath Care Portal Project
The internet is a valuable source of information but it can often be difficult to find the right information when you need it especially if you are unfamiliar with how to go about doing so.
The Meath Care Portal Project hopes to provide a solution to this problem by providing access to a wide variety of relevant information via one easy to use website.
The Meath Care Portal http://www.meathcareportal.ie/ is a one stop resource for people with disabilites, for older people and for caregivers.
The website provides access to the following information:
- Local & National Organisations
- Healthy Living
- Finance
- Support Services
- EGovernment Services (i.e. pay your motor tax online, revenue online etc.)
- Services for Independent Living
- An Online Community
Providing access to information through the website is only one part of the equation. Unless people have (1) access to computers with internet access and (2) knowledge of how to access and use the website, it is unlikely that the service will be used to great effect.
Therefore 17 desktop computers and 19 laptop computers have been provided to community groups across the county. Complimentary training in the use of the website will also be provided at these locations in order to equip people with the skills required to make effective use of the website.
The aim of this project is to increase awareness of and access to IT in the community and increase social inclusion through IT.
Meath County Council wished to acknowledge the funding provided for this project by the Department of the Environment, Heritage and Local Government under National Disability Strategy Funding. We would alos like to thanks the Disability Federation of Ireland and Health Service Executive for their much valued advice and input on the project.
