Cooperation Ireland All Island Pride of Place

Co-operation Ireland is the leading peace-building charity working in Northern Ireland and the Republic of Ireland. They work with groups from all religious and cultural communities to build vibrant societies based on the principles of respect for diversity and peace and reconciliation.

Each year Co-Operation Ireland run an all island competition which is similar to our own local Pride of Place competition.

The All Island Pride of Place judging took place in August 2012.  The competition aims to recognise and acknowledge the important work undertaken by community and voluntary groups in their communities.

The five groups that represented Meath in 2012 were as follows :

Kilmessan - Centres with Population 1000 to 2000
Julianstown - Community Garden
Third Age, Summerhill - Active Elderly in the Community
Hillview, Dunshaughlin - Housing Estates
Broomfield & District - Previous Winners

The competition is a joint initiative between Co-Operation Ireland and the Local Authorities in all of the 32 counties.

In addition to meeting the groups and volunteers on the ground, the judges are keen to meet Members and Staff of the Local Authorities to get a sense of how they work together to benefit the area.

Contragulations to all five groups on their marvellous achievements in 2012.
