Without doubt all individuals & groups involved in Pride of Place are actively working to improve the appearance of our villages and centres throughout the county. The judges found the standards to be very high and were hard pressed to select winners for this year.

Villages with Populations up to 500: 

1st place: Castletown Kilpatrick
2nd place: Moynalty
3rd place: Kilskyre.
 


Villages/Towns with Populations 500 to 1,500:

1st place: Julianstown
2nd place: Rathmolyon
3rd place: Slane.
 


Towns with Populations over 1,500: 

1st place: Trim
2nd place: Athboy
3rd place: Dunboyne
 

It is important to maintain and enhance the character and heritage of our approach roads to towns and villages as they provide the initial impression of the centre. This is evident when you visit the areas which were successful in this category:

Best Approach Roads: 

1 st place: Kells Road, Moynalty
2nd place: Navan-Ardee Rd. Castletown Kilpatrick
3rd place: Dublin Road, Dunshaughlin
 

It is reassuring that so many youth groups got involved in this year’s competition. After all, these groups represent the future custodians of our environment.

Best Youth Projects: 

1st place: Sweet Pea Youth Project Kilskyre
2nd place: Pedestrian Bridge, Linear Park, Youthreach Trim
3rd place: Children’s Garden/Wall Mural New Inn Estate, Enfield
 

It is often noted how the presence of a derelict site in an area can devalue and detract from the general appearance of a locality. By getting involved in improvement projects on these sites, these groups have significantly contributed to the enhancement of particular places in County Meath.

Derelict Sites Improvements Awards:

2nd place: Friends of Tara
3rd place: Calgath Kilcock 
 

County Meath is abounding with housing estates both old and new full of energetic and dynamic residents willing to use their talents and labour to maintain and care for the natural features in their surrounds. Meath County Council has rewarded the residents in the winning estates in the following categories:

Best Housing Estate :

Several local groups and individuals living in close proximity to waterways in County Meath have carried out projects in these areas which have brought much needed focus on our waterways.

Best Riverbank :

1st place: Yellow Ford River, Athboy
2nd place: Canal Park, Enfield
 


Best Use of Waterside Amenity: 

Hill of Down
 

County Meath is rich in rural living and local groups and individuals have undertaken work across the county in an attempt to improving the visual beauty of an area. This category of the competition encouraged groups to pick a mile stretch of tertiary road in their locality as their ‘Harvest Walk’.

2nd place: Broomfield & District (Whitecross walk)
3rd place: Newtown Road, Kilmainhamwood
 
Best Harvest Walk Hedgerow : Killyon
 
Best Tidy Towns Extension: Athboy
 

Best Buildings:

Best Commercial Building :  The Village playgroup, Moynalty
 
Best Hospitality/Tourism Premises :  Old Post Office, Slane
 
Best Industrial Premises :  Cloran Road Industrial Units, Athboy
 
Best Public Building :  Kiltale Church
