Artist and Bealtaine Ambassador, Robert Ballagh, opened exhibition in The Toradh Gallery, Ashbourne, Co. Meath
Meath County Council Arts Office was delighted to welcome Robert Ballagh to officially open ‘Fusion’ at the Toradh Gallery in Ashbourne on Thursday, 15th May. ‘Fusion’ was an exhibition by Ratoath Community Art Group and Dunboyne Old Schoolhouse Art Group. The exhibition opening was very well attended, the artists drawing support from friends, family and patrons from the locality and beyond. Members of Meath Harp Ensemble captivated the crowd and set alight the atmosphere in the striking gallery space at Ashbourne Civic Offices.
Speaking at the exhibition opening were An Cathaoirleach Cllr. Nick Killian, Sue Russell (Age & Opportunity), Janet Bolger (Ratoath Community Art Group) and Robert Ballagh.
Robert Ballagh met with the local artists in April for a series of workshops, in preparation of the exhibition. This collaboration between Robert Ballagh and the two local groups forms part of the Meath County Council Arts Office Bealtaine Festival.
An Ambassador of Age & Opportunity’s Bealtaine Festival, the internationally renowned artists mentored the intergenerational groups, offering advice and helping select work to exhibit. With a down to earth approach and extensive knowledge of painting techniques this self taught artist, described as one of Ireland's most important and influential contemporary artists, was an invaluable help to the members of the local art groups. The first time the two groups have worked and exhibited together, the exhibition incorporates a variety of themes, styles, and mediums including oil, acrylic, pastel and watercolour.
The Toradh Gallery is open Monday to Friday; 9.30am–5 pm (closed 1-2pm). The exhibition ran until the 12th of June 2008.
