Waste Tyres

The Waste Management ( Tyres and Waste Tyres) Regulations 2007 came into effect on 1st Jan 2008.  

A tyre supplier is defined in the regulations as a person who, for the purpose of trade or otherwise in the course of business as a

  • manufacturer,
  • wholesaler,
  • supplier,
  • trader, or
  • retailer,

sells or otherwise supplies tyres or waste tyres to other persons.

Obligations on Tyre Suppliers

Under the regulations, all tyre suppliers in Meath are required to register with either Meath County Council or an approved compliance scheme.

The regulations impose reporting obligations on anyone who suppliers tyres to the Irish market, whether as manufacturers, importers, wholesalers, suppliers, traders or retailers and on the collection of waste tyres. Registration is required annually.

Please note that under the regulations, tyre suppliers can only transfer waste tyres to authorised waste collectors who are in possession of a valid waste collection permit and are registered with either the Local Authority or an approved compliance scheme.

Registration Options

Details of the registration options are as follows:

Option 1 -Self Comply through registration with Meath County Council

If you choose to register as a tyre supplier with Meath County Council, you must register each premises located within Meath that is used for the supply of tyres, or used for the storage of tyres prior to supply.

  • A completed Tyre Supplier Registration Form (see below),
  • a waste management plan,
  • auditor’s certificate and
  • the relevant fee

should be submitted to the Environment Section of Meath County Council. 

Fees to Self Comply with Meath County Council

€100 (incl. VAT) annually and €100 (incl. VAT) for each additional premises.

Registration with the Local Authority also requires the applicant to submit quarterly reports to the Local Authority, and annual reports to the Environmental Protection Agency. There is also a requirement to re-register annually with the Local Authority and prepare annual waste management plans and reports.

Option 2 - Repak ELT

If you choose to register as a tyre supplier with Repak ELT, please submit a completed registration form and the appropriate fee to Repak ELT. The application form can be downloaded from and completed applications can be posted to the following address:

Fees to Register with RepakELT

Retailers/Wholesalers/Waste Collectors (Non importers) is €70 (incl. VAT) and €50 (incl. VAT) for each additional premises

Producers/Importers: €0.10 (excl. VAT) per unit that you import.

Farmers: Transactions from WASTE COLLECTORS to FARMERS will be recorded, but there will be no fees applied to FARMERS
