Date Released: 08 February 2018
The Department of Housing Planning and Local Government introduced the Repair and Leasing scheme in 2017 with a view to bringing vacant properties back into use for social housing. A number of improvements have been made to the original scheme.
The key changes are that in addition to the traditional social leasing arrangement, property owners can opt for a Rental Availability Agreement (RAA) whereby the rental level is increased from 80% to 92% of market rent in return for the owner taking on the role of landlord including responsibility for maintenance of the property. The minimum lease term has also been reduced to 5 years.
