Less than 25% of people working in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) are female, this is a huge underutilization of talent, creativity and innovation. There are numerous reasons for this gender imbalance, including lack of role models, lack of opportunity to study STEM subjects in school, perception of inequality, etc.

There are huge opportunities for women in STEM, it offers an exciting and challenging career and can literally take you places. STEM needs vibrant, creative and innovative young women, STEM needs you! Have you thought about a career in STEM? #dreambig #bridgethegap

Meath County Council with the support of Engineers Ireland wants to find out which inspirational STEM woman inspires you? Maybe it’s Alice Perry, the first woman in both Ireland and the UK to gain an engineering degree? Or perhaps it’s Dr. Norah Patten who is on track to become Ireland’s first astronaut? Or maybe it’s one of the many female STEM roles models who work or have worked in STEM?

Tell us about this person in 500 hundred words or less, why do they inspire you? What makes them a good role model for women? What are their achievements? Or how have they contributed to the world of STEM or changed the gender imbalance?
