TESLA Surveys in December 2015 - Minor vibrations may be felt during the survey however a vibration monitoring specialist will monitor the vibration levels as the vibrator convoy passes. The vib trucks are loud similar to a loud lorry.
Date Released: 02 December 2015
In December 2015 TESLA Exploration International Limited will be conducting a seismic survey in the Navan area on behalf of Boliden Tara Mines Limited. The purpose of the survey is aimed at extending the life of the mine at Navan.
The survey will take place on the public roads and will take place in two parts. The first part will be a survey of the routes to determine the location of services, culverts, structures, etc. The second part will be the most visible element of the survey when the convoy of “Vib trucks” will drive the designated routes, stopping every few metres for a minute or so.
The trucks will emit low level vibrations and the signal will be picked up by geophones planted along the roadside every 10m . The seismic survey uses sound vibrations to detect features beneath the ground surface. Later the recorded signals are analysed to produce images of the underlying geological layers.
Traffic management will be employed and some traffic delays may be encountered.
Minor vibrations may be felt during the survey however a vibration monitoring specialist will be present on site and will monitor the vibration levels at roadside buildings as the vibrator convoy passes. The vib trucks are loud similar to a loud lorry.
The three routes under survey, each approximately 10km long, are:
1) R147 Dunshaughlin to Navan road from Cabragh north of Ross Cross to the Newbridge at the Kentstown road/Timmons Hill junction in Navan,
2) R161 Navan to Trim road from the Solstice Arts Centre Navan to Dunganny,
3) L4008 Connel’s Cross to Robinstown to Retaine, L8033 & L4024 Retaine to Clarkes Cross, L8008 Clarke’s Cross to Ardbracken.
