Housing

Meath Local Authorities can help to provide housing to those who, for whatever reason, are unable to provide suitable accommodation from their own resources.  We achieve this by providing housing directly, and through a wide range of social housing options.


Local Authority Housing

Meath Local Authorities build houses within the county for people who are in need of housing and who cannot afford it from their own resources. Find out more in our Local Authority Housing Section, which covers renting, extensions, repairs, buying a local authority property and more. 


Affordable Housing

Under the Affordable Housing scheme Meath Local Authorities provide new properties for sale, to eligible applicants, at a discounted price. You can view the Affordable Housing currently available in Meath.

The Council provide various types of loans and grants, including

These are available directly from the Housing Department of Meath County Council.  These grant schemes have replaced the Disabled Persons Grant and Essential Repairs Grant Schemes.

Other Schemes to Help you with Housing

Rural Cottage Scheme  This scheme is currently closed.

Private Sites for Sale, where we may provide housing sites at low cost to help people in need of housing, to provide their own housing.  This scheme is currently closed.

Mortgage Allowance - if you are a tenant or tenant purchaser of a Local Authority house returning your existing house to the Local Authority, and taking out a mortgage of at least € 38,092 to purchase or build a house for yourself, you may qualify for Mortgage Allowance.

Assistance towards the rent of private accommodation may be available under the Supplementary Welfare Allowance Scheme operated by the Health Services Executive.

Voluntary Housing Bodies provide rental housing for people who could not otherwise afford to provide suitable accommodation from their own resources.

The Incremental Purchase Scheme opens an avenue for social housing applicants and tenants to purchase their own homes. The objective of the IPS is to provide an affordable route to homeownership for households that are renting social housing or those awaiting the allocation of social housing. Please download the Incremental Purchase Scheme Application Form to apply for this scheme.
