Change of Address for Driving Licence

If I change address do I need to apply for a new full driving licence?

You are required to carry your driving licence with you at all times when driving in Ireland. You are required to show evidence of your licence if requested by An Garda Siochana (Irish police force).

While you are not required by law to change your driving licence if you change address, it is highly advisable nonetheless. Contact your local Motor Tax Office and they will provide you with the relevant driving licence application form.

As well as the completed form you will need to provide:

  • 2 passport sized photographs
  • Current licence

Exchanging your driving licence to amend the address or name is a free service.
