N2 Ashbourne to Ardee
N2 Ashbourne – Ardee Scheme Constraints Study
Constraints Study Area
The Constraints Study Areas are shown in the drawing PDF below outlined by a thick red line. It is anticipated that all proposed road improvements/replacement route corridor options will be contained within these areas defined by the constraints study area.
Introduction
The N2 national primary route links Dublin to Derry. It is the main route from Dublin to the Northwest border area via counties; Meath, Louth, Monaghan, Tyrone, Derry (A5), and Donegal (N14).
The N2 Asbourne to Ardee Scheme involves the improvement/replacement of the existing N2 national primary route, extending from the Finglas to Ashbourne Bypass in County Meath to an appropriate location north of Ardee, County Louth. The main aims of the scheme are to cater for increased traffic volumes, reduce accident rates, relieve traffic congestion, improve route consistency along the N2, improve economic opportunities for Meath, Louth and the northwest and to improve cross border linkage.
Meath County Council and the National Roads Design Office (NRDO) in Navan, in conjunction with Louth County Council and Fingal County Council are progressing the scheme through the planning and design process. An integral part of this planning and design process is the preparation of a constraints study. This report will require the collection of a wide range of data, part of which is being done by consultation process.
What is a Constraints Study?
The purpose of a Constraints Study is to determine what constraints (physical, procedural, legal, environmental, etc.) exist that could affect the planning and design of the scheme, delay progress or influence cost.
