Swift, the Local & the Global - Academic Submission invited for July Symposium
Swift, the local and the global
2 day symposium, Trim, County Meath Ireland 3rd-4th July 2010

Trim Swift Festival is an annual celebration of the life, works and legacy of Jonathan Swift, hosted by the town of Trim where Swift had his parish from 1700. Trim was the site of Swift’s church at Laracor and home to Stella, Anthony Raymond and Joe Beaumont. The festival hosts a two-day academic symposium on Swift and proposals are invited for twenty-minute papers exploring any aspect of Swift’s life or work. Possible themes include but are not confined to the following:
- Swift’s parishes and congregations: Kilroot, Laracor, St Patrick’s
- Swift and the Church of Ireland; other religious and secular communities
- Swift’s circles of acquaintance, friendship and enmity
- Global trade, slavery and colonialism
- Swift and the local/global economy; economic crises
- The history and archaeology of Swift’s localities (Dublin, Trim, Kilroot, Markethill, Quilca)
- Swift and landscape, agriculture, archaeology
- Swift and language, dialect
Deadline for proposals of c. 300 words is 31st March 2010; please submit by e-mail to jg.ward@ulster.ac.uk
