Ingenious Ireland - Guided Tours for Curious People

Guided Tour of the Hill of Tara -- High Kings, Heroes and History

Informative and entertaining, this comprehensive guided tour of Tara will take you to all the monuments, as well as pagan sanctuaries, ancient roads, and a holy well, following in the footsteps of high kings and heroes.

Tara is a special place, but you will need a guide, as there is little information on the site. We give you a personal guided tour -- one you can take whenever you want, and at your own pace, and all thanks to the wonders of modern technology.

Tara audio tour features
All the monuments on the hill, plus background information on rituals, legends, and neighbouring monuments and Skreen village. Over one hour of commentary, with 17 tracks and even music played on prehistoric horns. The tour comes with a map and user guide, and high-tech aerial images of Tara.

Excellent value, from just €9.95.

We recommend allowing about two hours for the full tour -- but with an audio guide you can pause at any point, for coffee or lunch, and resume the tour later. And with so much to see in and around Tara and the Boyne Valley, it makes a great day trip.

Pick up the audio tour on a handy souvenir player at Tara gift and coffee shop. It's yours to keep. Or download our ingenious Tara tour here.

Practicalities of visiting Tara
The Hill of Tara is a big, open area. We recommend comfortable shoes and warm clothing, as you will be crossing rough ground and the hill is windy and can be cool even in summer. Binoculars and a camera can be useful if you have them. There is car parking, a coffee and souvenir shop, and toilets, but there is limited access to the hill for people with impaired mobility.
