Familiarisation Trip for Meath Tourism Members
Meath Tourism's annual Familiarisation Trip took place on Wednesday August 6th 2008. 43 Meath Tourism members from all over the County visited some of Meath's finest properties, Tankardstown House, Battle of the Boyne Oldbridge Estate and Newgrange Farm.
Tankardstown House
Tankardstown is a new property located close to Slane Castle. Tankardstown is a cluster of 7 stone cottages, converted from a 19th century stable yard. The main house is open for private parties, intimate weddings, small conferences, product launches and more.
The Battle of the Boyne Visitor Centre at Oldbridge Estate
The Battle of the Boyne between King William III and his father-in-law, King James II, was fought on 1 July 1690. At stake were the British throne, French dominance in Europe and Religious power in Ireland. The Battle of the Boyne Visitor Centre is located in the recently restored 18th century Oldbridge House, on the battle site. This new interpretive centre opened in May this year and expects to attract 100,000 visitors.
Newgrange Farm and Coffee Shop
Newgrange Farm is a 333 acre farm situated in the Boyne Valley and surrounds the famous National Monument of Newgrange. This is a genuine family owned and run working farm / educational facility, where adults and children can try the "hands on" experience of bottle feeding, feeding, holding, petting, and seeing all the usual farm animals and poultry.
