Meath Tourism appoints new Board of Directors
Meath Tourism New Board of Directors 2010
A new board of directors was appointed at the recent AGM of Meath Tourism. The board welcomes new members Orna Flannery, Shanks Mare Pub, Moynalvey, Summerhill representing Licensed Vintners, Brian Heffernan, Trim Chamber representing Chambers of Commerce and Jim Carlton, General Manager Newgrange Hotel with responsibility for corporate sponsorship. These new members join with existing members representing all sectors of the tourism industry including hotels, restaurants, attractions and activities, crafts and festivals, bed and breakfasts and self catering along with public representatives from Meath County Council, Kells, Trim and Navan Town Councils.
The new board of directors will oversee the planning of a new interim strategy for tourism in Meath. Tourism has been recognised as an area which has the capacity to stimulate economic recovery. The board is viewing this period as a time to gather the tourism trade together to implement common goals with the ultimate goal of increasing visitors to Meath. Consultation with the tourism trade was conducted in late May and it is expected that the strategy will be prepared and ready for implementation by Autumn. Once completed, the new two year Tourism Strategy will replace the previous strategy Ireland’s Heritage Capital 2005-2010. This new strategy supported by Meath County Council will guide tourism marketing over the next two years for Meath Tourism and its members.
