Tattersalls wins coveted title 'Best Event of the Year'
Tattersalls Ireland International Horse Trials won the coveted title 'Best Event of the Year' for the second consecutive year.
The Award was presented at the 10th Annual David Foster Memorial Injured Riders Ball. Collecting the Award, Managing Director George Mernagh said, “I can’t tell you how delighted I am that we have been awarded this wonderful honour. When we won it in 2006, we all thought it was a unique achievement but to have won it in successive years is a tribute to the many people involved who work all year round to ensure the Event’s high standards.
Anyone who has organised an event of any kind will know exactly what I am talking about. The people who look after the grounds, the course, the administration, the hospitality as well as the many volunteers, fence judges and officials all deserve the highest praise.”
Tattersalls Ireland’s Chairman, Edmond Mahony was understandably proud,” Our vision is to provide world class thoroughbred sales at our wonderful facilities in Co Meath, and also to promote Irish horses and equestrianism through the events we run here. To win this Award for our International Horse Trials is superb. It validates the decision by the international equestrian federation (FEI) to ask us to host an FEI World Cup Qualifier in 2008.”
The 2007 event attracted top riders from around the world as well as throughout Ireland as was reflected in the results. The CCI** class was won by Britain’s William Fox-Pitt on Trinity Hill followed by Ireland’s Elizabeth Power on the thoroughbred Kilpatrick River with New Zealand’s Andrew Nicholson in third. William Fox-Pitt who competes all over the world said he was overwhelmed by the quality of the event and the hospitality. “I will be back, “ he said, “ come rain or shine!”
The 2008 Tattersalls Ireland International Horse Trials takes place from 29 May to 1 June 2008. Riders and spectators will be coming from all over Ireland and from many other countries to be part of this world class event.
