HSMAI Awards 2007
Meath Tourism has been awarded Best Tourism Brochure for 2007 by the HSMAI (Hospitality Sales and Marketing Awards International). The awards which reward excellence in the tourism and hospitality industry were held on Tuesday night last, 23rd October at the Burlington Hotel.
The prestigious ceremony was hosted by Marty Whelan, who presented 20 awards to winning tourism and hospitality organisations. Over 350 Tourism Sales and Marketing Professionals were in attendance at the ceremony held in the Burlington Hotel. An independent judging panel was formed of nine people with extensive experience in the Tourism industry. They had a tough challenge choosing the winners from a high standard of entries in each category. A shortlist of 4 was chosen for the Best Tourism Brochure by the panel of judges including South Dublin County Tourism, Causeway Coast and Glens Tourism, Railtours Ireland.Com and Meath Tourism.
At the event on Tuesday night at the Burlington Hotel, it came as an exciting surprise to the Meath Tourism Chairman Cllr. John V Farrelly and Board members Mary Lydon and Seamus Cassidy, and Ann Marie Dunne and Michele Whelan Meath Tourism who were in attendance when Meath Tourism was announced as the overall winner. Michele Whelan, Meath Tourism's Marketing Executive accepted the prize of a beautiful Waterford crystal John Rocha piece which was presented by Cyril McAree from Hotel and Restaurant Times Magazine.
Speaking at the Awards, Michele Whelan said, ‘I am delighted to receive such a prestigious award for County Meath and to see the work of Meath Tourism being recognised. It’s a very exciting time for tourism in County Meath at the moment with so many new hotels, new accommodation and attractions and we intend to continue to raise awareness of the County through our work.’
Meath County Council and Meath Tourism decided to create this new County Meath Brochure in order to provide the required information for a visitor to County Meath to plan their holiday. The part funding received from Meath Partnership towards the cost of the brochure assisted Meath Tourism in getting the brochure produced on time for the new season. The introduction of concise text, large images, a detailed map, coloured fonts and a larger brochure ensured that the final finish was more user friendly and consequently a deciding factor for the judges in selecting Meath Tourism as the National Award winner. The brochure was designed by Chaos Design.
Meath Tourism would like extend special thanks to the following: Michael Ludlow (Meath LEADER), Marie Reilly (Chaos Design), Clare Tuffy (OPW), Amelia Reilly (Kells Heritage Centre), the Slane Tourism Committee and Trim Tourism Committee and Hazel Dobbyn (Eastern Regional Fisheries Board).
