The Poet's Rest Nominated for 2 Gold Medal Awards
Local chef Georg Heise is this week celebrating great news. The finalists for the 2008 Gold Medal Awards have been announced and both The Poet’s Rest Restaurant and George’s Patisserie in Slane have been included. George declared “We are absolutely delighted with this news. Our restaurant, The Poet’s Rest, only opened in February so it is a great honour for us to be included in the 2008 Final. George’s Patisserie, which has served delectable cakes and homemade bakery produce in Slane since 2001, is a firm favourite with locals and visitors alike and so for this nomination we are equally grateful.”
The judging process has been stringent – a detailed written application examined the business and a mystery guest assessed the facilities, service, standards, cuisine and other key indicators. The Poet’s Rest has been nominated in the Bistro category and the George’s Patisserie has been nominated in the Cafes and Coffee shop category.
George exclaimed “It has been a busy and exhausting year for me and for all the team as we worked hard to get the new restaurant open. We also opened our second patisserie store in Trimgate Street, Navan in the past year so it is a time of great growth for our business. We have developed a website www.thepoetsrest.com to keep our guests posted with all our news and special events such as next months Truffle evening. And we have also had a number of private weddings at the restaurant which has proven to be a beautiful venue for intimate wedding receptions.”
George beamed “We have had wonderful comments from our restaurant guests who are delighted both by the culinary adventures we are taking them on and by the reasonable prices that we charge. But it is also very rewarding for us to be recognised by our peers in the hospitality industry and we are truly delighted. My dress suit is pressed and ready, my black shoes are polished and now I am just waiting with bated breath now for the award ceremony.”
The Awards, hosted by the Hotel and Catering Review, are an annual event celebrating the finest service providers in the Irish Hospitality sector. The winners will be announced at a Gala Black Tie Award Ceremony at the Shelbourne Hotel, Dublin on 15th September
