The Battle of the Boyne arrived in 17th century costume with muskets and hats to start the event off and give us a taste of their exhibition stand at the 'real' Discover Meath Day which will take place at Fairyhouse Racecourse on 19th July from 12- 6pm.  Seamus Cassidy put on a great display of crafts, Dave Robinson, Rathbeggan Lakes gave a casting display, while Deirdre Murtagh at Causey Farm gave everyone a dancing lesson.  You could also avail of a hand massage from Knightsbrook Hotel spa therapists to relieve you of the strains of daily life! and with a sumptuous bbq provided by the Knightsbrook chefs topped off by George's fabulous brownies (George's Pattiserie in Slane), it was a great evening all round.

Discover Meath will be a great day out for all the family with a quality day of horseracing from Fairyhouse along with a host of tourism events throughout the day.  The launch was just a sample of what is to come. Organised by Meath Tourism and Failte Ireland, the Discover Meath day on Sunday, 19th July, will provide a great opportunity to raise awareness of the tourism assets in County Meath , as tourism providers from across the county gather to showcase everything that is on offer.

With over 3,000 people expected to attend, it will be a great day out for families and couples to experience all there is to do in County Meath .  Most of the tourism providers in County Meath have already signed up to the event taking place on Sunday 19th July at Fairyhouse Racecourse.  The day will be packed full of family activities and top quality horse racing.  Some of the activities include a falconry display from Newgrange Falconry, music performances from Le Cheile Festival, paintballing from the Zone, craft and design village from the Meath craftworkers, 17th century battle display from the Battle of the Boyne, bodhran lessons from Causey Farm, free massages and reflexology from Meath hotels, golf putting greens from Meath golf clubs, face painting, bouncing castle, ice-cream cart and kid’s entertainment, street theatre, and food demonstrations along with a day of racing.  Fairyhouse have reduced the charge at the gates.  At only €5 per adult with children free of charge, the 19th July is a must on everyone’s calendar this Summer.

Kevin Kidney, General Manager Fáilte Ireland East and Midlands, said - “We are delighted to be working with Meath Tourism on this initiative and we hope Discover Meath & the Boyne Valley will give people a greater awareness of the attractions, activities and accommodation and all there is to see and do in their community and therefore, allow them to act as ambassadors for their region with both domestic and overseas visitors. It will be a wonderful showcase of Meath and the Boyne Valley as one of Ireland ’s most invigorating leisure and holiday destinations.”

Speaking at the launch on Tuesday evening, Chairman of Meath Tourism Cllr. John V Farrelly said - “We hope to highlight all there is to see and do in County Meath and encourage people nationwide and from Dublin and neighbouring counties to come along to Discover Meath on Sunday, 19th July.  On this one day, you will learn and experience all there is to do in County Meath and gather enough information so that you can revisit each of these attractions throughout the Summer.”

Inteviewed before the launch, Caroline Gray, Manager of Fairyhouse Racecourse added –

“I am delighted that Discover Meath is coming to Fairyhouse on our raceday on 19th July and we look forward to hosting the event.  Fairyhouse will come to life on that day with a host of events scheduled throughout the day intertwined with a great day’s racing.” As well as great entertainment, there will be free giveaways, a major competition and lots of free tickets to entice the public back to visit each of the attractions throughout the remainder of the year.
