National Trails Day 4th October 09
National Trails Day took place on Sunday, October 4th 2009 with events taking place all around the country. Our event took place at the Kells Girley Bog Eco Walk which was opened this year. Maurice Eakin from the National Parks and Wildlife Service gave an insightful talk along the walk. National Trails Day is a celebration of Ireland’s wonderful variety of trails and a chance for everyone to enjoy some of our most beautiful countryside.
Girley Bog is a 3.5 mile waymarked National Loop covering varying landscape including forest and bogland. It's a peaceful retreat away from the hustle and bustle of life. On Sunday, 40 people joined us at the walk to hear Maurice Eakin speak about the plant and animal life on this raised bog which is becoming increasingly rare. Enjoy the photos.
Thanks to Jan Muyllaert and Maurice Eakin for the photographs.
Thanks to Maurice Eakin, NPWS for the fantastic talk, thanks to Coillte for helping us with the day and to the supporters of the walk Meath County Council, Failte Ireland and Kells Chamber.
Most of all thanks to everyone who came along yesterday.
