Clean Coasts Roadshow 2024 : Behind the Lens

Thursday, 25th April at 7.00 pm

Navan Library is welcoming back The Clean Coasts Roadshow 2024 for another photography event in association with Navan Camera Club.

The Clean Coasts Roadshows are a series of free talks and workshops for coastal communities which take place all around the coast of Ireland. The Roadshows aims to bring together all those with an interest in protecting their local beaches, seas and marine life and environment.

This year's "Behind the Lens" event will see a special guest presentation from photographer Christine Taylor of Celbridge Photography Club. Christine is a former Chairperson and Competition Secretary of the club, and wildlife and sports photography are her passions. Christine is especially known for her wonderful equine sports photography and a photo from Laytown races was named in the Top 10 of the People and the Coast category in the Love Your Coast Photography Competition 2023.

The second guest speaker will be Feargal Quinn from Navan Camera Club. Feargal is a very accomplished wildlife photographer. He will showcase some of the clubs wider work as well as talking about his own photography.

Since 2010, the Love Your Coast photography competition has been a celebration of all the beauty and uniqueness of the Irish coast, that Clean Coasts volunteers work to protect. Through the competition, Clean Coasts invite the people in Ireland to appreciate, celebrate, and safeguard our coast, echoing the dedication of our over 2,000 volunteer groups working tirelessly to protect our marine environment.

About Clean Coasts and Navan Camera Club

The Clean Coasts programme from An Taisce works with communities to help protect and care for Ireland’s waterways, coastline, seas, ocean and marine life.

For the past 13 years the "Love Your Coast Photography Competition" has been  inviting photographers to capture the uniqueness of our coastal landscape, heritage, wildlife, communities and more, and to submit their best shot across five categories: Coastal Heritage, Coastal Landscape, People & the Coast, Wildlife & the Coast and Creativity and the Coast. The competition provides an opportunity to view the coast and our waterways that the Clean Coasts programme works to protect from a completely different perspective and see the beauty captured therein.

Navan Camera Club was formed in 1987 when a small group of people finished a local VEC course in beginners photography and decided to start a club. Since then the club has grown and currently has many members with varying levels of photography experience from advanced to complete beginners. The annual club programme runs from September through to the following May.
