Notice of Proposed Closure of part of Railway Street (R161) and part of Trim Road Navan

Notice is hereby given that Meath County Council intends to close Railway Street (from the Solstice Roundabout to the junction with Carriage Road) and part of the Trim Road (from the junction with Woodlands Housing Estate to the junction with Dan Shaw Road) in Navan, Co Meath to facilitate public road upgrade works and ancillary works as part of the Athlumney to Trim Road Cycle and Pedestrian Scheme.

The closure will be carried out in 3 separate phases. 

Phase 1 shall be a night-time closure of part of Railway Street, Trim Road and part of Carriage Road for two nights on Thursday 11 April & Friday 12 April 2024, between 7pm and 7am. The roads shall be re-opened to traffic as normal at 7am on each day.

Phase 2 shall be a day-time closure of part of the Trim Road from the junction with Woodlands Housing Estate to the junction with Dan Shaw Road for 3 consecutive days on Monday 15 April 2024, Tuesday 16 April and Wednesday 17 April 2024 between 7am and 7pm on each day. The road shall re-open to traffic as normal at 7pm on each day.

Phase 3 shall be a night-time closure of part of Railway Street, Trim Road and part of Carriage Road for 2 consecutive nights commencing on Thursday 18 April 2024 and Friday 19 April between 7pm and 7am each night. The road shall be open to traffic as normal at 7am on each day.

Alternative routes

The works shall take place in three phases, with separate road closures in place for each of the three works phases. The alternative routes for each phase shall be as follows:

PHASE 1 & PHASE 3

Traffic approaching from the Northern approach at the Solstice Roundabout

Traffic is to be diverted north along Railway Street to its Junction with Trimgate Street/ Brews Hill. Traffic will be directed left (west) onto Brews Hill where it shall continue to its Junction with Commons Road. Traffic shall be diverted south onto Commons Road where it shall continue to its Junction with Claremont Avenue/Dan Shaw Road. Traffic shall be directed left on to Claremont Avenue/Dan Shaw Road. Traffic shall continue on to the Dan Shaw Road from Claremont Avenue to the junction with the Dan Shaw Road/ Carriage Road. From this junction, traffic can either turn left on to Carriage Road and continue to the Trim Road or continue on the Dan Shaw Road to the junction with the R161/Trim Road at Beechmount. Diversion Ends. 

Traffic approaching from the South (Trim)

From the Junction of the Trim Road (R161) with the Dan Shaw Road at Beechmount, traffic is to be diverted North-West along Dan Shaw Road and continue to its junction with Commons Road. Traffic shall be directed right (north) onto the Commons Road. The diversion route shall continue along Commons Road to its junction with Brews Hill where it shall be directed right (east) on to Brews Hill. Traffic shall continue along Brews Hill to its junction with Railway Street/ Cannon Row. From here traffic shall be directed right (south) on to Railway Street where it shall continue to the Solstice Roundabout. Diversion Ends. (Local Access shall be provided on Railway Street from Solstice Roundabout to the Level Crossing XK020). 

PHASE 2- Trim Road (between Junction with Woodlands and junction with Dan Shaw Road) 

Traffic approaching from the North (Navan)

Traffic is to be diverted west from the Junction with Trim Road/Carriage Road Junction on Carriage Road to the Junction with Carriage Road and Dan Shaw Road. Traffic shall be diverted left (east) on to Dan Shaw Road where they shall continue to the Trim Road. Diversion Ends. 

Traffic approaching from the South (Trim)

Traffic is to be diverted west from the Trim Road along the Dan Shaw Road to the junction with Dan Shaw Road/Carriage Road. Traffic shall be diverted right (north/east) on to Carriage Road to the junction with Carriage Road/Trim Road. Diversion Ends. 

Diversion signs will be in place.

Local access for residents and businesses/deliveries will be accommodated. Car park access/egress will be maintained.

Pedestrian Access

Pedestrians will be facilitated with access throughout the closure period.
