Navan 2030 Construction Works Commencing 4th May 2022

Information

Meath County Council has recently appointed a Contractor, John Cradock Limited, for the upgrade works on Kennedy Road, Market Square, Paddy Brien Street/ Kennedy Road junction, Trimgate Street/Market Square/Kennedy Road junction, and to Kennedy Plaza. These works, as part of the Navan Town Scheme (Navan 2030) which is being funded by the National Transport Authority, will provide a new bus interchange facility on Kennedy Road, improved access to the town centre, a significant public realm upgrade for our Town, and will also facilitate planned public transport network

enhancements. The works are to be completed in several sections and these have been sequenced in delivery phases which aim, as far as reasonably practicable, to mitigate the impact on the town arising from the works.

By way of a high-level summary, the overall works to be completed include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Section 1: Upgrade of the junction of Paddy O’Brien Street with Kennedy Road
  • Section 2: Construction of a new taxi rank on Abbey Road, footpath works and road pavement reconstruction works
  • Section 3: Upgrade works to Market Square, the Trimgate Street/Kennedy Road/Market Square junction
  • Section 4: Reconfiguration and upgrade works to the southern end of Kennedy Plaza car park
  • Section 5: Upgrade works on the eastern side of Kennedy Road adjacent to the Navan Town Shopping Centre, including construction of part of the new bus interchange facility
  • Section 6: Upgrade works on the western side of Kennedy Road (including construction of part of the new bus interchange facility) and works to Kennedy Plaza area, including reconfiguration works to the car park area
  • Section 7: Upgrade works to Kennedy Road from Paddy O’Brien Street to Trimgate Street junction

The first phase of the works, which commences today (Wednesday, 4th May 2022) is focused on the upgrade of the Paddy O’Brien Street junction (Section 1) and the works on Abbey Road (Section 2). To facilitate these construction works, vehicular access to Paddy O’Brien Street from Kennedy Road will be restricted on a temporary basis, with traffic diverted via Abbey Road and Watergate Street to access Paddy O’Brien Street. Please refer to Diversion Route Map below. Traffic will continue to exit from Paddy O’Brien Street onto Kennedy Road (towards Abbey Road or Kennedy Road).

The works on Abbey Road will include the construction of a new taxi rank on the Shopping Centre side of the road, a new taxi waiting area, and ancillary works. New drainage and service ducting is to be installed, and footpath works are also to be completed. In addition, the existing road surface profile is to be re-graded in places and resurfaced to improve the road drainage. These works are to commence on the week of the 9th May 2022. It is currently anticipated that the works as part of this first Phase (works to the Paddy O’Brien Street junction and Abbey Road) will take approximately 10 weeks to complete. During the road works, alternative traffic routes as part of the temporary traffic management measures will be signposted and communicated via local media and social media. Access for residents and businesses will be maintained.

Meath County Council apologises in advance for any inconvenience, and thanks you for your patience and forbearance while these works are being implemented.
