Temporary Traffic Management Arrangements – Fair Green and Church Hill

In order to facilitate the planned upgrade works on Church Hill and Fair Green (road) from Monday, March 31 2025, the Contractor will be implementing a one-way system for a period of up to six months. This temporary traffic management system will be kept under review, and alterations/improvements may be implemented where required.

From Monday 31st March for an initial period of up to 6 Months - Please see Map 1

A one-way system is to be introduced on the Fair Green/Churchill Road (L-8969-8) from its junction with Bridge Street to the junction with Circular Road (shown in orange on Map No. 1). During the period of this temporary traffic management plan, entry to the Fair Green/Churchill Road (L-8969-8 from Circular Road will be temporarily prohibited, and a diversion shall be put in place.

Diversion Route 1 - Please see Map 1

Westbound traffic on Circular Road (R161-4) will be directed to the Solstice roundabout. Traffic shall be required to take the 4th exit from the roundabout onto Circular Road and then to travel east on Circular Road to the junction with Bridge Street (L-3417-3), and then to turn left onto Bridge Street. Diverted traffic will be directed northwards on Bridge Street to its junction with Fair Green/Churchill Road (L-8969-8), turning left onto Fair Green/Churchill Road, where access to Church Hill, Old Cornmarket and Fair Green/Fair Green car park will be possible. Please note, it will not be possible to reintroduce a right turn lane on Circular Road to enter Bridge Street, as this would likely lead to traffic delays interfering with the operation of the R147 junction.

Traffic approaching Fair Green/Churchill Road from Northbound and Southbound on Railway Street will be directed to continue east on Circular Road to the junction with Bridge Street (L-3417-3), turning left onto Bridge Street. Diverted traffic shall be directed northwards on Bridge Street to its junction with Fair Green/Churchill Road (L-8969-8), turning left onto Fair Green/Churchill Road where access to Church Hill, Old Cornmarket and Fair Green/Fair Green carpark will be possible.

Suggested Route for traffic approaching from the South on the R147 (Dublin Road)– Please Map 2

Traffic seeking to access Fair Green/Churchill Road from the south on the R147 Dublin Road will be encouraged to turn left on to Academy Street (L-3418-0) at Academy Square/ Fifth Province sculpture and to travel northwards on Academy Street to the signalised junction with Circular Road, continuing northwards onto Bridge Street to its junction with Fair Green/Churchill Road (L-8969-8), turning left onto Fair Green/Churchill Road where access to Church Hill, Old Cornmarket and Fair Green/Fair Green car park shall be possible.

The diversion route for northbound (towards Navan) traffic shall be signposted and traffic marshals shall be in place at critical junctions along the route for the initial stages of the traffic management plan. Local access will be maintained; however some road users may experience some minor delays at certain times of the day.
