Starting a Business

Starting a Business

Under Irish law every new business when it is set up is required to register for business tax purposes.

There are 3 principal areas in which tax arises:

  1. Business Tax
  2. P.A.Y.E
  3. V.A.T

Tax Registration

To register a new business for tax purposes 2 online forms are available at the Revenue.ie web site www.revenue.ie

Form TR1 for an individual/ partnership/ unincorporated body
Form TR2 for a limited company

Registering a Company/Business Name

Every business that wishes to trade as limited company must be registered with the Companies Registration Office in Dublin. The necessary form can be downloaded from their site.

In addition, if an individual wishes to trade under a name other than his/her own name then it would be prudent to register that name with the Companies Registration Office.
