The Meath Crime Prevention Facebook page is an official social media page within An Garda Síochána. It was set up in 2011 by Meath Gardai and now has just under twenty five thousand followers with a weekly reach of approx two hundred thousand.

The Facebook page is used to keep the public informed of

  • all types of incidents which occur around the county,
  • current crime trends and scams,
  • crime alerts,
  • missing persons,
  • crime prevention and road safety advice.

It is used to great effect to try and find owners for property coming into the possession of An Garda Síochána and has been particularly successful over the past number of years.

It is also used to showcase good work by members of An Garda Síochána through community engagements and successful detections.

There are two administrators who are available to answer any queries or questions that the public may have. These are answered on a regular basis in confidence.

Community groups have set up local Facebook pages and link in with the Meath Crime Prevention page which has opened up additional lines of communication.

The Facebook page is a phenomenal success and is welcome by followers in the county and by followers in other parts of the world who are interested in keeping up to date with what is happening in their home county.
