A Declaration of Non Use of a Motor Vehicle (Form RF150) must be made to your local motor tax office during the month that the current tax (vehicle licence) is due to expire or during the month that a current Declaration of Non Use of a Motor Vehicle is due to expire.

You can declare the vehicle off the road for a minimum of 3 months - maximum of 12 months.

In the event of the purchase of a vehicle

The Declaration of Non Use of a Motor Vehicle (Form RF 150) must be submitted to your local motor tax office within 21 days of the date of sale given at the notification of transfer of vehicle ownership.

Where a vehicle is imported / brand new

The Declaration of Non Use of a Motor Vehicle (Form RF 150) must be submitted to your local motor tax office within 21 days of the date the vehicle was registered in the state. Similarly, Declaration of Non Use of a Motor Vehicle (Form RF 150) for a brand new vehicle must be notified to your local motor tax office within 21 days of the date of registration.

In the event of the vehicle going on road during the “Declared off-road period”

In the event of the vehicle going on road during the “Declared off-road period” you may tax the vehicle as normal from the date it goes on the road. This will terminate the period of non-use.
