Meath County Council is at an advanced stage in the preparation of the Meath Biodiversity Action Plan 2025 – 2030. A draft Biodiversity Action Plan has been produced by the local authority with the support of the Biodiversity Working Group of the Meath Heritage Forum. It sets out a statement of intent by Meath County Council in relation to the natural heritage and biodiversity of the county over the next six years.

The 4th National Biodiversity Action Plan requires all local authorities to have local authority Biodiversity Action Plans in place by the end of 2026. With the appointment of a Biodiversity Officer, supported by the Heritage Council’s Biodiversity Officer Programme, Meath County Council commenced this process in 2024 and plan to finalise a Local Authority Biodiversity Action Plan by the end of 2025.
