Meath County Council is at an advanced stage in the preparation of the Meath Biodiversity Action Plan 2025 – 2030. A draft Biodiversity Action Plan has been produced by the local authority with the support of the Biodiversity Working Group of the Meath Heritage Forum. It sets out a statement of intent by Meath County Council in relation to the natural heritage and biodiversity of the county over the next 6 years.

The 4th National Biodiversity Action Plan requires all local authorities to have local authority Biodiversity Action Plans in place by the end of 2026. With the appointment of a Biodiversity Officer, supported by the Heritage Council’s Biodiversity Officer Programme, Meath County Council commenced this process in 2024 and plan to finalise a Local Authority Biodiversity Action Plan by the end of 2025.
