Housing Assistance Payment

Housing Assistance Payment

Housing Assistance Payment (HAP) is a replacement for Rent Supplement which assists those with a long term housing need in paying for private rented accommodation.

The HAP phone lines 046 909 7000 are open from 9.00 a.m. – 1.00 p.m. (Monday – Friday).  Alternatively you can email HAP on hap@meathcoco.ie

Under HAP Meath County Council will make the full rent payment on behalf of HAP recipients directly to their landlord. The HAP recipient will then pay a rent contribution to Meath County Council. The rent contribution paid by tenants is based on their income and ability to pay.

How to Apply

In order to qualify for HAP in Meath, a household must apply to Meath County Council and be approved for social housing support. Find out more about applying for housing and becoming a qualified applicant

If you are currently on our waiting list you are eligible for HAP.

Eligible applicants will be supplied with a pack describing the scheme and how it works.

The following steps will follow:

  • Applicants source their own private rented accommodation subject to available rent limits.
  • The housing office approve the standard of the unit within a timeframe.
  • We will arrange for the Landlord to be paid a monthly rent for the unit.

Rent is based on the weekly household income.

Once an applicant has completed these steps their housing need will be considered to have been met.
