Join the Library

Membership of the library service is free and open to anyone living, working or studying in the county.

Your membership card can be used in any Public library in Ireland and entitles you to borrow from and return to any Public library in the Country.

Adults and children of any age can join. Children under 18 years old will need a parent or guardian to sign the membership form. The parent or guardian will be responsible for any items borrowed.

To join, visit your local library with:

  • Proof of Identification. We accept driver’s licences, passports, student ID cards etc.
  • Proof of Address. We accept household bills, bank statements, official correspondence.

Please note that you will need to collect your library card at your local library and will need to provide proof of your current address and photo ID (as above) when you do.

Members can borrow:

  • 12 items (books, magazines, DVDs, CDs, audio books, language courses)
  • Items can be borrowed for 3 weeks. If the item is not requested by another borrower, the loan period can be extended (link to Renew books/loans).

About your card:

  • Please take care of your library card.
  • Please remember to bring your library card with you when you visit the library. If you do not have your card with you, you will be asked for some form of identification before you can borrow items.
  • Please let us know about any changes to your name, address or phone details.
  • You are responsible for all items borrowed on your card.
  • Please let us know as soon as possible if your card is lost or stolen.
