Ireland Reads

Join the Ireland Reads campaign to get Meath reading and pledge some minutes for a national day of reading on February 25th. For 2023 we'll have some events in our libraries, lots of book recommendations on our Social Media pages and our Ireland Reads Playlist on our YouTube Channel.

Ireland Reads 2022

Ireland Reads LogoIreland Reads is a new campaign to get the whole country reading this month in the lead up to a national day of reading on Thursday, February 25th.

Find out about all that’s happening for Ireland Reads, get book recommendations and take the pledge to read on Friday, February 25th at www.irelandreads.ie

Meath Libraries has teamed up with libraries nationwide, publishers, booksellers, authors and others for the campaign, which is part of the government’s Keep Well initiative and aims to celebrate reading and all the benefits it can have for wellbeing and enjoyment.

The campaign is asking everyone to ‘squeeze in a read’ on Ireland Reads Day, Friday, February 25th. The Ireland Reads website is the place to go to pledge reading minutes for to read on the day and see how much time has been pledged by the Irish public.

Not sure what to read? No problem!

The Ireland Reads website also offers book recommendations suited to a person’s interests and the time they have available. There are more than 2400 recommendations from librarians all around the country, including Meath.

You can simply enter your favourite type of book and how long you would like to read each day and the website will offer a suitable book suggestion and work out how long it will take to complete – a couch to 5k for books! Check it out!

We also have some resources on our own website that will help you find something to read as well. Check out our Book News section for reviews, recommendations, news of Book Awards, newly published titles to watch out for and more.  And keep on eye on our Social Media pages for more reading recommendations and news of the Ireland Reads campaign.
