Speed limit review and speed limit bye laws
Speed Limit Review
On the 23rd of April 2016 the Department of Transport, Tourism and Sport issued a circular and new Guidelines for Setting and Managing Speed Limits in Ireland, to Local Authorities.
They requested that a review be carried out of all Special Speed Limits in the country, in relation to the new Guidelines, and noting that new Special Speed Limit Bye-Laws should be in place by the end of April 2017.
We have commenced the review of speed limits within the county and to date the Council has received over 250 submissions from various interested parties. Each of these locations will be assessed in relation to the new national guidelines.
Bye laws are now in place for 30kph speed limit for a number of housing estates.
