Are you interested in learning to sew?
A six-week sewing class at Navan Library could be a fantastic opportunity for you!
This programme is aimed at complete beginners.
Week 1: Introduction to Sewing Machine
Learn how to use your sewing machine including different stitches and attachments. Learn to create different seam types, this is good practice for sewing straight lines. Learn to hand sew different types of buttons
Week 2: Hems
Different types of hems will be covered in week two including double turned hems, curved hem and blind hem stitch on sewing machine.
Week 3: Zips
Learn to sew two different types of zips including an invisible zip and nylon coil zip. All zips will be provided.
Week 4: Alterations
Students will be asked to bring garments that need altering or mending.
These will be small projects such as turning up trousers, mending a tear or replacing a zip.
Week 5: Cushion Making
Students will be supplied with fabric and zip to make a cushion cover.
Learn how to place a pattern and cut it for the cushion. This class will also cover how to create frills using a gathering stitch.
Week 6: Buttonholes
Learn to make buttonholes. How to make bias binding and different ways to sew it.
Booking essential as spaces are limited.
Tuesday: 4th, 11th, 18th, 25th September & 2nd, 9th October.
*Participants must bring their own sewing machine.
