Meath County Council will join local authorities across Ireland on Friday, 27 June, to mark Your Council Day, a national campaign promoting the vital work of city and county councils and the people behind the services that support our communities every day.

Coordinated by the Local Government Management Agency (LGMA) and supported by all 31 local authorities, Your Council Day is an opportunity to showcase the wide range of services councils provide - from community spaces and planning to local democracy and economic development.

This year’s theme, Building Stronger Communities, highlights how local authorities foster environments where people feel connected, supported, and empowered to thrive.

As part of the event, Meath County Council will showcase the work of its staff and demonstrate how their roles positively impact and strengthen our local communities. The public will hear from Litter and Dog Warden Alan Nolan, Lifeguard Brendan Geraghty, General Services Supervisor Jonathan Hoey, Senior Library Assistant Rebecca McKeever, and Retained Firefighter Sarah Weldon.

"We are delighted to participate once again this year in Your Council Day", said Chief Executive of Meath County Council Kieran Kehoe. "We are proud to support the building of stronger communities each and every day through the over 1,000 services we provide to our communities in Meath. The exceptional work of our Library Service, Lifeguards, Litter Wardens, Civil Defence, Fire Service, and Outdoor Workers, which will be shared on Friday, is just a tiny snapshot of the phenomenal work carried out across our entire organisation on a daily basis."

Cathaoirleach of Meath County Council, Cllr. Wayne Harding said, "The wonderful thing about Your Council Day is that it serves as a valuable and powerful reminder of the vital role the Council plays in the everyday lives of its citizens. At Meath County Council, we are committed to excellence with every single service we provide so that we can build stronger communities for the people we proudly serve. Every single day, our staff are out maintaining parks, roads and beaches, working to provide housing, and supporting local businesses and community groups. More than anything else, I am honoured today to celebrate their vital contributions to our communities."

The public is encouraged to follow the day’s events on our Facebook and Instagram pages and join the conversation using the hashtags #YourCouncilDay and #DoLáSaChomhairle. For more information on Meath County Council, visit www.meath.ie.
