We have a varied and exciting programme of events and activities for children as well as specially organised events at different stages of the year.

Regular Events & Clubs

Regular activities that we run include Book Clubs, Storytime, Arts and Crafts sessions, STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Maths) Activity Sessions. Check the calendar for events at your local branch.

Festivals and Special Events

Every year we organise events to celebrate national festivals including

  • World Book Day

  • Spring Into Storytime
    On top of our regular story time sessions, extra events such as STEAM Stories or Story and Craft session are organised during the month of April as part of the Right to Read initiative.

  • Children’s Book Festival

Libraries all over the county celebrate Children's Book Festival during the month of October.  Here in Meath, we organise author visits for schools, drawing and writing workshops and a whole lot of fun activities, all with a focus on spreading the joy of reading, to mark this festival.  

  • Science Week, Engineer's Week and Tech Week

Our STEAM team organises programming to help children explore the world of Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Maths.  Some of the workshops that we run include in house Coding Tutorials using Scratch and Lego WeDo, Lego Building Workshops.  We also organise outside facilitators to deliver STEAM based activities to schools during the year.

  • Summer Stars

We run a fun filled Summer Events Programme and a Summer Reading Challenge during July and August. We have competitions, quizzes, reading challenge and host live and pre-recorded story time and activity sessions for primary and pre school children.

  • Family Time at Your Library
    Family events and activities take place during the month of December to support the involvement of the whole family in children’s reading. These events are organised as part of the Right to Read initiative.

Competitions

Children can take part in lots of competitions during the year including Colouring Competitions, Design a Bookmark (World Book Day), Creative Writing Competitions, the Summer Reading Programme (July & August) and a Lego Building Competition (Engineer’s Week). We also have online quizzes and photo competitions with some nice prizes for the winners.
