What is Civic Dollars?
Civic Dollars is a free app that rewards people for spending time outdoors and taking part in positive activities in their local area. By getting outside and engaging with nature and community spaces, individuals and community groups can earn Civic Dollars, a digital community currency that can be used to redeem awards via the app.
The initiative supports physical activity, mental wellbeing and community connection, while also encouraging people to explore and enjoy County Meath.
Civic Dollars in Meath is supported through the Healthy Meath (Healthy Ireland Fund) and Meath PPN programmes and is overseen by the Meath Local Community and Development Committee.
How does Civic Dollars work for individuals?
Individuals earn Civic Dollars by spending time outdoors. This includes activities such as:
- Walking, cycling or spending time on local greenways, trails and blue spaces
- Visiting outdoor community spaces, parks or heritage locations
- Taking part in outdoor events or wellbeing activities
- Getting active outside in ways that suit all ages and abilities
Outdoor activity is mapped through the app, and Civic Dollars are awarded based on time spent outdoors. These Civic Dollars can then be redeemed for local rewards.
How does Civic Dollars work for community groups?
People can donate their dollars to community and voluntary groups in Meath. They can then use Civic Dollars to access supports such as:
- Access volunteers provided through businesses
- Vouchers for catering and equipment
- HR, social media and legal supports
