The Room for a Student Scheme allows qualifying tenants to rent out a room in their property to a qualifying student for the academic year. Each and any subsequent academic year would require a new application for both tenant and student. There is a provision that this scheme may be extended to all qualifying applicants, and not just students, in the future.
This scheme extension for Local Authority tenancies went live on 1st December 2023 with anticipation that first applications would be active for the second semester, starting January 2024.
