Fiction

You will find all your favourite authors, latest bestsellers, award winning books and more on our shelves.  The fiction collection covers a wide range of genres including Fiction by Irish Authors, Science Fiction and Fantasy, Urban Fantasy, Romance, Westerns, Quick Reads and more. 

Non-Fiction

Our non-fiction collection covers a huge range of topics from psychology, biography, history, gardening, cookery, childcare, education, crafts, health & nutrition and more.

Foreign Language Collection

We stock a selection of Fiction and some Non Fiction in foreign languages.  We try to purchase the bestselling authors whose texts have been translated as well as popular novels written and published in other languages. You can reserve these for pick up at your local library or pop in and browse the shelves.

Healthy Reading

Our Healthy Ireland collection in each branch features titles on Healthy Eating, Mental Health, Alcohol, Tobacco, Physical Activity, Parenting, Books for Children and Young People and Positive Aging.

The Meath Healthy Reading Scheme is a collection of titles which have been recommended by HSE psychiatrists for self help with particular issues or disorders.  The subjects covered are Addiction, Anger, Anorexia, Anxiety, Assertiveness, Bereavement, Binge-Eating & Bulimia, Child Abuse (Adult Survivors, Child Sexual Abuse (Adult Survivors), Dementia, Depression, Dyslexia, Dyspraxia, Mood Swings, Obsessions & Compulsions, Panic, Postnatal Depression, Post Traumatic Stress, Psychotherapy. Relationship Problems, Schizophrenia, Self Esteem, Sexual Problems, Social Anxiety, Stress and Worry.

Work Matters

Part of our Work Matters service is the provision of books in the areas of business and employment.  All of our libraries stock a range of these titles aimed at those seeking employment or starting their own business.

Large Print

This collection comprises books printed in a font size that is larger than usual so that anyone with a visual impairment can read them with ease.  The titles available include bestselling authors and cover the usual genres.

 

Westerns

We have a small collection of westerns available if some of our libraries which includes popular series like Black Horse western and Gunsmoke.

 

 

Quick Reads

If you’re finding it hard to fit reading in to your schedule then give our Quick Reads a try.  They’re shorter books than your average novel so you can get through them quicker and the great news is that they are written by bestselling authors.  They're also a great choice for anybody learning English as a second language as well as for new and emergent readers.

Audiobooks

Listening to a book is a more flexible way of keeping up with the latest bestsellers.  You can listen while exercising, going on a long car journey, doing housework, gardening etc.. And of course audiobooks are perfect for anybody with a visual impairment or for someone who struggles with reading.  We have a variety of formats on offer for those who want to listen instead of read:

CDs

You can borrow and listen to your favourite fiction and non-fiction audiobooks in CD format for playing on any CD player or PC.  Audio CDs have bookmarking features so you can easily pick up where you left off.

MP3 CDs

Our MP3 Audiobooks will work in any player that is compatible with the MP3 format.  You can also play these on your PC or laptop and even download them and transfer them to your smartphone or other mobile for listening on the go.

Playaway Digital Audiobooks

All you need to listen to our digital audiobooks (Playaway) is a pair of earphones.  These devices come with the story already loaded and are really easy to use.  They have their own volume and playback controls and are small enough to fit in your pocket. There’s no need for any special equipment and you don’t have to worry about downloads or CD players.

eAudiobooks

You can borrow up to 5 eAudiobooks at a time and download them to your phone, tablet, laptop or PC with BorrowBox.  Items are returned automatically and with a collection of nearly 5000 items there’s something for everyone. And a whole range of new titles are added to the collection each month.

Magazines

We stock a small range of weekly, monthly and quarterly magazines that you can borrow.  Titles include Hello, Ireland’s Own, Autocar and Match.  Over 300 full colour digital magazines are also available for you to download or stream using our Digital Magazine service.

DVDs

Our ever-growing collection of DVDs is very popular among our adult borrowers.  All of our libraries have a range of movies and TV series as well as documentaries and educational DVDs. 

CDs

We have a small collection of music CDs available for lending with something for all musical tastes.  Choose from classical, Irish, pop, rock, country, World Music and more.

Language Sets

If you’d like to learn a new language or just to have a few words to help make your trip abroad go smoother then you can borrow a language set.  These sets typically have a book and CD and range from beginner to intermediate and advanced. 

We also have an Online Language Learning resource with over 100 languages to choose from including 25 beginner English courses.

Journals

Our store at Navan library is home to a large collection of journals which hold a wealth of information on the history, economy and social life in Ireland as well as on Irish writing and publishing. 

The Local Studies department houses Ríocht na Midhe, the journal of the Meath Archaeological and Historical Society.  An index to the journal is provided by the society on their website. Many other journals are available from the Local History Collection such as the Journal of the Royal Society of Antiquaries of Ireland.

You can also access JSTOR’s Ireland Collection on the Public Internet computers in all of our libraries.
